Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was expected for doubts to be raised about his position following a further convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in twelve matches, marking the team's worst run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received significant support from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory naturally but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it's typical that people question you.”
He continued, “I accept my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard exchanges I sense the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so let’s see.”
Persistent Problems and Player Response
Slot expressed regret over familiar shortcomings from his team in their European loss, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” Jones stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a period like this with results this poor.”
Jones finished, “But we still have that badge on our chest. And as long as it is removed, we'll continue to compete.”
“We’re going to try to help the side return to the top, prove again what this club is about and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
