Antony Price, the groundbreaking UK-based designer responsible for a series of unforgettable images favored by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has passed away at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and dramatic aesthetics, including the soft-colored suits that became famous from rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement across their platforms."

This news arrives shortly after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Pioneering Career

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to study at the renowned Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing menswear at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger sported during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by outfits on model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A key creative partner of the late David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his expert craftsmanship in crafting body-hugging looks established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," according to the UK's fashion authority.

During the nineties, he commenced designing outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including a number of outfits for her US tour following her marriage.

With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price staged what would be his last show in London last month in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.
