Djokovic Delivers Caution to Jannik Sinner: Suspension Will Follow Him Like a "Shadow"
Novak Djokovic has cautioned Jannik Sinner that his three-month ban for doping will persist over his career like a "cloud" – while also questioning the scheduling of the sanction in the previous season.
The Ban Explained
The Italian player served a three-month prohibition in early 2025 after the global anti-doping body accepted his explanation that a prohibited performance-enhancing substance, clostebol, had been ingested unintentionally.
"That cloud will follow him just as the Covid controversy will follow me, for the rest of his, or my career," Djokovic stated in an interview on Piers Morgan: Uncensored.
"It is a situation where, it was so significant, and after such events, over time it will fade, but I don't think it will disappear. There's always going to be a specific segment of individuals that will always try to bring that forward."
Djokovic's Perspective
Djokovic expressed belief that Sinner, his frequent training companion, "had no intentional involvement", but he then scrutinized how the player arranged to serve his time without missing a grand slam.
"The absence of openness, the irregularity, the convenience [of] the ban coming between the slams, so he doesn't miss out the others – it simply appeared highly unusual," Djokovic added.
Wider Player Reactions
"I really don't like how the situation was managed and it was evident so many other players, across both tours, who had some similar situations coming out in the media and asserting it represented favorable handling."
