Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson stated he barely escaped a potentially deadly incident during Sunday's Mexico City Grand Prix when two marshals ran across the track directly in front of him

The concerning event occurred on the third circuit when safety workers were spotted on the racing surface as Lawson was getting back on the race following an early pitstop to change his compromised front wing

Driver's Immediate Reaction

Immediately after, the team's competitor Lawson communicated to his pit wall engineer saying: "Is this for real? Did you witness that? I could have... killed them"

"I truly couldn't comprehend what I was seeing"

"I exited on a new set of hards, and then I approached Turn One and suddenly there were two individuals sprinting across the track"

"I came close to striking one of them, truthfully, it was incredibly risky"

Track Safety Questioned

"Obviously there's been a failure in communication somewhere but I've never experienced that before, and I haven't really seen that in the past. It's absolutely inexcusable"

"We fail to grasp how on a ongoing race track marshals can be allowed to just run across the track like that. I don't understand the reason, I'm certain we'll get some form of reasoning, but this must never be repeated"

Official Investigation Underway

Formula 1's governing body, the global motorsport federation, is currently investigating the events

"After an occurrence at turn one, race control was advised that fragments were located on the track at the critical section of that bend" stated the governing body

"In the third rotation, marshals were alerted and placed on standby to access the circuit and recover the debris once the entire field had cleared the area"

"As soon as it became apparent that Lawson had pitted, the directives to deploy officials were canceled and a safety warning flag was displayed in that section"

"Our inquiry continues what occurred subsequent to that time"
