Pat Bamford Joins Sheffield United Despite Leading Derogatory Songs Targeting Coach Chris Wilder

Patrick Bamford has joined Sheffield United only half a year following instigating derogatory songs targeting their manager, Wilder.

This experienced forward, a free agent since leaving Leeds, has signed a contract joining the second-tier strugglers through the winter. His lengthy career at Elland Road concluded by mutual consent in August.

Among the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player was to lead offensive songs about Wilder amid the club’s promotion party in April. Now, the former England player will feature for Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to rescue the team he loves out of the relegation zone.

Previous Conflict Involving the Striker and the Manager

The pair had previous conflict prior to Leeds won promotion to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder described the forward as a "muppet" back when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and Sheffield United secured automatic promotion whereas Leeds United fell short in the promotion playoffs.

Reconciliation & Moving Forward

All seems has been forgiven and forgotten with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of a boost up front and Bamford aiming to rejuvenate his playing days.

The Wilder chant gained traction this spring. An apologetic Patrick along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the following day.

Chris Wilder stated back then: “Spoke with Pat recently and I’ve no issue at all with it. I’m not sure regarding the language from a fellow professional! However I valued and respected him calling me.

“We had a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel Farke too and we had a longer discussion with him and he's a super guy, a class act. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and accept it and that’s an integral part of the game at every level, including a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with it and I said that to Pat.”

Recent Playing Challenges

The forward made 18 appearances for Leeds in the previous campaign but the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC and Boro striker has struggled with injury over the past few seasons.
