The French PM Resigns Following Barely Three Weeks Amidst Broad Criticism of Freshly Appointed Government

France's political crisis has intensified after the freshly installed PM suddenly stepped down within a short time of forming a cabinet.

Rapid Departure Amid Government Turmoil

Sébastien Lecornu was the third premier in a year-long span, as the republic continued to move from one political crisis to another. He stepped down hours before his opening government session on the beginning of the workweek. The president approved the prime minister's resignation on the beginning of Monday.

Strong Backlash Over Fresh Cabinet

France's leader had faced intense backlash from political opponents when he announced a new government that was mostly identical since last previous month's removal of his preceding leader, François Bayrou.

The presented administration was controlled by President Emmanuel Macron's political partners, leaving the cabinet mostly identical.

Political Reaction

Political opponents said France's leader had reversed on the "profound break" with past politics that he had vowed when he came to power from the unpopular previous leader, who was ousted on the ninth of September over a proposed budget squeeze.

Next Government Course

The question now is whether the national leader will decide to dissolve parliament and call another snap election.

Marine Le Pen's political ally, the leader of Marine Le Pen's political movement, said: "We cannot achieve a restoration of calm without a new election and the parliament's termination."

He stated, "It was very clearly Emmanuel Macron who decided this government himself. He has misinterpreted of the current circumstances we are in."

Vote Demands

The National Rally has pushed for another poll, confident they can boost their seats and influence in the legislature.

France has gone through a time of instability and political crisis since the president called an unclear early vote last year. The legislature remains divided between the three blocs: the left, the nationalist group and the central bloc, with no absolute dominance.

Budget Deadline

A spending package for next year must be passed within coming days, even though parliamentary groups are at disagreement and Lecornu's tenure ended in less than a month.

Opposition Motion

Factions from the left to far right were to hold discussions on Monday to decide whether or not to support to dismiss the prime minister in a parliamentary motion, and it looked that the cabinet would fail before it had even commenced functioning. France's leader apparently decided to step down before he could be ousted.

Cabinet Positions

The majority of the major ministerial positions announced on Sunday night remained the identical, including Gérald Darmanin as justice minister and arts and heritage leader as arts department head.

The role of financial affairs leader, which is crucial as a fragmented legislature struggles to approve a financial plan, went to Roland Lescure, a government partner who had previously served as business and power head at the start of Macron's second term.

Surprise Selection

In a surprise move, a longtime Macron ally, a Macron ally who had served as economic policy head for multiple terms of his term, returned to government as national security leader. This enraged politicians across the spectrum, who saw it as a sign that there would be no questioning or modification of his corporate-friendly approach.
