The Latest Casual Playlist Ignites Intense Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new game mode called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough format but features a few key adjustments:
- Every squad includes only eight human participants, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
- Actions done by human gamers grant full XP, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
- Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Features like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for players seeking different ways to have fun with the game. But, if video games have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 fans are mad.
Community Reactions: From Fury to Support
"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," and another details everything they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."
On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Concerns and Community Input
Despite the support, players have valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists currently available. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the community meeting them in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another labels this mode as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
If the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Tasks being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics shows this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
