Thrice-crowned NBA MVP Nikola Jokic suffered a "gut-wrenching" injury to his knee when the Nuggets lost by a score of 147-123 at the Heat.

Jokic sustained the injury late in the first half following an unintentional collision with team-mate Spencer Jones.

The other player stepped on the footwear of the MVP, who promptly fell to the court clutching his leg.

The veteran player, that is leading the league this season in rebounds and assists, posted 21 points and eight dimes in the game prior to sustaining the injury.

Jokic will undergo an MRI on the following day to determine the extent of the problem.

"Right away, Jokic understood he was hurt," stated Nuggets head coach David Adelman.

"This happens in professional sports. Anyone who gets hurt, it's gut-wrenching, particularly somebody as special as he is. We'll find out more tomorrow."

"We will continue together. Of course, currently, I am focused just about Jokic personally and the letdown of going through something like that."
